Shibli Rubaiyat becomes member of AL’s sub-committee

Professor Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam, chairman of the capital market regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), has been chosen as a member of the ruling Awami League’s (AL) education and human resources sub-committee.

The party approved the education and human resource sub-committee on Sunday (9 July) last. Party Chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina okayed the committee after getting it done by AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader. This sub-committee will serve the party from 2022-2025.

Earlier, the party sources said, AL’s Advisory Council Member Professor Dr. Abdul Khalek was made Chairman and AL’s Education Affairs Secretary Shamsun Nahar (Champa) was made the member secretary.

Apart from this, Nurul Islam Nahid, a member of AL’s advisory council and former education minister, has been chosen as the co-chairman of the sub-committee.

Meanwhile, the capital market insiders have congratulated Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam on his nomination as a member of the AL’s sub-committee on education and human resources.

Earlier in July last year, he was elected as the first vice-chairman of the Asia Pacific region of the International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO). He is serving in this position for the 2022-24 term. This is the first such position held by Bangladesh.

Dhaka University’s (DU) Dean of Commerce Faculty Prof. Shibli Rubaiyat Ul Islam joined the BSEC on 17 May 2020. Prior to joining the BSEC as chairman, he served as the chairman of Sadharon Bima Corporation (SBC). During his time, the SBC made a profit of about Tk 1,250 crore in four years beginning from 2016.
