Bangladesh's export-import activities with India through Benapole land port will remain suspended for five days starting from Friday on the occasion of Durga puja.
Shamsur Rahman, president of Benapole C&F Agents Association, quoted Kartik Chakraborty, general secretary of C&F Agents Staff Welfare Association of Petrapole port in India as saying, "All imports and exports through Petrapole port will remain closed till October 24 during the puja holidays."
The trade activities will resume on October 25, he added.
Kamruzzaman Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police, said the movement of passengers with India is normal even though the movement of goods through Benapole-Petrapole port has been suspended.
More than 4,700 passengers have crossed since Friday morning, according to the port authority.
Despite the suspension of trade activities, importers will be able to unload all types of goods from the port during the holidays, said Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House Athela Chowdhury.
