The primary education landscape in Chilmari Upazila has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to the government's recent initiative to provide new buildings to educational institutions.
Once plagued by classrooms housed in dilapidated tin sheds, the quality of education and learning environment in these institutions has been significantly elevated.
Notably, the Nalarpar Government Primary School in the upazila used to conduct classes in a ramshackle tin shed structure, deterring many children from attending school due to the lack of proper infrastructure.
However, recent efforts by the current government have brought about a sweeping change in the school's appearance and functionality. A new building has not only restored the quality learning environment but has also led to a notable increase in student attendance.
Under the fourth primary education development program (PEDP-4) in the financial year 2021-22, a total of 33 educational institutions in the upazila were allocated new buildings. One of the standout beneficiaries is the Nalarpar Government Primary School, which received a state-of-the-art facility at an estimated cost of Tk 1 crore 14 lakh 1 thousand 816. This institution, established in 2002 and nationalized in January 2014, now accommodates over a hundred students and is staffed by five teachers.
Students who had previously experienced the school's dire conditions, such as Rokaia and Mahim from the 5th grade and Tasimim Ashura from the 3rd grade, expressed their joy at the remarkable transformation. They recalled a time when their classrooms would flood during light rain, and the broken benches made it impossible to sit comfortably. With the new building in place, they now enjoy a comfortable and conducive learning environment.
The Headteacher of Nalarpar Government Primary School, Md. Abu Taher, shared the school's journey from a mere shed to a tin shed house built in 2009, followed by nationalization. He recounted the challenges of running the institution despite the harsh weather conditions. Grateful for the government's support, he highlighted the positive impact of the new building on students' attendance.
Chilmari Upazila Engineering Officer, Md Firozur Rahman, expressed his satisfaction with the construction work under the fourth primary education development program (PEDP-4) for the year 2021-22. He emphasized that all 33 educational institutions had received high-quality buildings, reflecting the dedication and commitment of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in the project.
