Bus set on fire in Gazipur amid blockade

A bus of Sharmili Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in MC Bazar area of Mawna Sripur in Gazipur on Wednesday (8 November) amid the countrywide 48-hour blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties.

The incident took place around 6.08 pm and two firefighting units of Sripur Fire Station rushed to the spot around 6.16pm, said Tanha Bin Zasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room (media cell).

On Monday (6 November), BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties announced a 48-hour road-rail-waterways blockade across the country beginning from Wednesday.

The latest spell of agitation was announced on the last day of the opposition's 48-hour nationwide blockade which was marked by widespread incidents of violence, including clashes with police, vandalising and burning vehicles.
