The underprivileged, landless, and homeless in Manikganj are now experiencing the warmth of colorful and sturdy homes, bringing smiles to their faces.
This special initiative by the government is providing concrete houses and land to those who have long faced deprivation.
The recipients of this initiative are expressing immense happiness, especially those who have never had a place to call home before. Today, they are thriving in the shelter project, cultivating vegetable gardens alongside their newfound homes. The provision of electricity, clean water, and proper toilets, which were once mere dreams, has become a reality.
The shelter project aims to support physically and mentally challenged individuals, widows, abandoned spouses, beggars, and small marginalized communities. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned their dreams into reality, and the lives of these previously homeless people are undergoing a positive transformation.
Borotiar Korjona, a resident benefiting from the shelter project, conveyed her gratitude, saying, "I never imagined having such a beautiful home in my fate. My family and I are doing well. I pray for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
Gopal Sheikh shared his story, stating that before having a home through the shelter project, they endured rain and storms in makeshift homes on others' land. Now, thanks to the gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, their lives have taken a turn for the better. He expressed his sense of security and peace in the new shelter, allowing him to sleep comfortably at night.
Chhaya Rani, a resident and a theater artist residing in the shelter, reflected on her journey, saying, "I learned acting after my father passed away in childhood. I used to act for a salary ranging from 1 to 2 taka. I have acted in more than three hundred plays, portraying roles such as Rani, mother, dacoit, and a wealthy character. Many dramas have been broadcast on radio and television. We didn't have our own land. We lived next to the road. After marriage, both of us used to act. Due to my husband's age, he can no longer act. In one stroke of fortune, we have found refuge in the home given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now, I can sleep peacefully in the shelter. We have cultivated lau, shim, pepe, dhundal, and begun for our family's consumption and extra income. Serenity has come to our family."
Member of Parliament A. M. Naimur Rahman Durdana mentioned that a total of 105 houses have been allocated under the Ashrayan-2 project in Gheor. A sum of Tk 21 crore 56 lakh has been allocated for these houses. The first 25 houses received Tk 1 lakh 71 thousand each, the second phase of 50 houses received Tk 1 lakh 90 thousand each, and the third phase for each house received Tk 2 lakh 59 thousand.
