11 Awami League leaders have been dismissed for working for independent candidate MA Sattar (truck symbol) in Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency. The matter was confirmed through a press release signed by Chandraganj Thana Awami League President Abul Kashem Chowdhury and General Secretary Abdul Wahab on Tuesday (December 26) night. It was also decided that they cannot be candidates for any party post in future.

The exempted leaders are Chandraganj Thana Awami League Vice President Ahiduzzaman Beg Bablu, Joint General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Patwari, Treasurer Harunur Rashid Patwari, Labor Secretary Nashir Patwari, Cultural Secretary Humayun Kabir, Member UP Chairman.

Samchul Alam Babul Patwari, UP Chairman
Nurul Amin, UP Chairman Sohrab Hossain Rubel Patwari, Lokman Master and Md. Khaled.

Earlier on December 19 Mandari Union Awami League General Secretary Md. Masud was dismissed from the party post.
According to the press release, an emergency meeting was held at the personal office of Chandraganj Thana Awami League General Secretary Wahab on Tuesday morning. Committee President Abul Kashem presided over the meeting. Exonerated leaders are continuously absent from party activities, involved in illegal and unconstitutional activities. According to Article 47 of the Constitution, 10 leaders have been exempted from party posts. They will not be able to be candidates for any committee post of Awami League in future.

Meanwhile, exempted leader and chairman of Mandari Union Parishad Sohrab Hossain Rubel Patwari protested this with a status on Facebook. He also threatened to take legal action against the leaders of the police station committee. The status says- 'Legal action will be taken against you very soon. Apanara does not have the power to dismiss any leader of the thana committee as president-general secretary of the thana committee. Surely you are the enemy of Awami League, the enemy of Sheikh Hasina. While the Honorable Prime Minister is giving encouragement to the Awami League leaders and activists for a beautiful participatory election by thinking about all aspects, you, the President-General Secretary of Thana Awami League, are dishonoring the party's tested leaders and activists for holding elections without voters in order to implement the agenda of BNP-Jamaat.'

Leader Mosharraf Hossain Patwari, who was released from the post of joint general secretary, said that the Prime Minister has opened up about the election. There are no instructions to take action against party-independent candidates or party workers. Unconstitutionally gave us a letter of exemption to keep the boat candidate happy and to scare the activists. To be exempted, the district committee will recommend to the center. Center can exempt us. The two leaders of Thana Awami League cannot exempt me in any way.

Leader Ahiduzzaman Beg Bablu, who was dismissed from the post of vice-president, said, I saw on Facebook that we have been dismissed. But no decision has been given from the Center that activists cannot work for independents. There are also no instructions for expulsion or exemption. We will discuss what action can be taken in this regard.

Abdul Wahab, general secretary of Chandraganj Thana Awami League, said that 11 people have been dismissed under the direction of the district Awami League for being absent from party activities, involved in unconstitutional and immoral activities. It is not our concern which candidate the exempted leaders vote for.

District Awami League President and current Member of Parliament Golam Farooq Pinku is a candidate for Lakshmipur-3 Constituency. Mohammadpur Thana Awami League president MA Sattar is in the field as a strong competitor with him.
