Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Wednesday (13 March) that the construction of Bangabazar Market, which was burnt a few months ago, will begin after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The mayor said this while distributing iftar items among the people of Ward No-20 of DSCC at a community center in the city's Segunbagicha here. The councilor of the ward Farid Uddin Ahmed Ratan organized the iftar distribution programme.
Taposh said different development projects worth Taka 600 crore including the construction of Bangabazar Market are going on in this ward.
Ongoing trade and businesses around the Bangabazar area will continue till Eid-ul-Fitr, he said adding that the tender process for constructing the Bangabazar market is almost completed.
Pointing out Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s constant efforts for people’s welfare, Taposh said Bangabandhu's daughter has taken the initiative to sell essential items for common people at fair prices sensing their sufferings.
Five hundred lower-income families of the ward received iftar items on the first day while more than 500 families would get iftar items during Ramadan.
Every family gets nine essential items including eight kilograms (kg) of rice, one-liter oil, one kg gram, one kg of lentils, and one kg of sugar.
Earlier, Taposh visited Gulistan underpass market.
DSCC chief executive officer Mizanur Rahman, secretary Akramuzzaman, chief engineer Md Ashiqur Rahman and councilor Roksana Islam Chamely, among others, were present.
