Abu Bakar Siddique, assistant private secretary (APS) of Lalmonirhat-1 lawmaker Motahar Hossain, was unofficially declared winner in the by-election to Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad held on Wednesday (3 April).
Siddique bagged 282 votes while his nearest rival Safura Begum got 273 votes, District Returning Officer Lutful Kabir Sarker confirmed.
He said that five candidates contested this by-election.
The voting was held peacefully in six polling stations of 5 upazilas of the district on Wednesday from 9 am to 2 pm.
The post of chairman was left vacant following the resignation of Adv Md Matiur Rahman.
