Two people died as a running train crashed into a sand-laden truck from behind in Purbo Fazilpur Muhuriganj Bridge area under Feni’s Sadar upazila on Friday (5 April) morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Md Mizan, son of Abul Hawladar of Kawyarraha village under Barishal’s Wazirpur upazila. The victims were the driver and helper of the truck.
Police and witnesses said the accident happened around 8:30 am when the Chattogram-bound mail train hit the truck while crossing the trail track as the gateman failed to place the bar despite the arrival of the train in the Muhuriganj Bridge area.
The impact of the accident left the two dead on the spot, they said, adding that the bodies were sent to Feni Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Feni’s Superintendent of Police Md Jakir Hasan, who visited the spot shortly after the accident, said legal actions would be taken against the accused upon investigation in this regard.
Gateman Md Saiful went missing soon after the accident, he added.
