Meherpur witnesses season’s highest temperature at 40.7°C

Meherpur district recorded the highest temperature of this season at 40.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (17 April).

People are experiencing blistering heat as a severe heat wave is sweeping the district.

Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre recorded 40.7 Degrees Celsius in Meherpur at 3 pm on Wednesday, said Jaminur Rahman, in-charge of the Observatory Centre.

The situation may persist for a few more days, he said adding that there is no possibility of rain at this moment.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature of this season at 40.6 degrees Celsius.

The people of the district especially the low-income people are in dire straits due to intense heat.

Working people were seen resting under trees and in shady places hoping for some relief.

According to BMD’s weather bulletin on Wednesday morning, a severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Chuadanga and Bagerhat and a mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, the rest part of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and it may abate from some places.

Meanwhile, rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it added.
