After nearly 21 years of closure, the Thakurgaon silk factory became operational in August, 2023. As the factory opened with new zeal, the workers and employees dreamed of living comfortably with their families. But after six months the factory has stopped again in February this year.

In this regard, the manager of the factory, Md. Tushar said, in the last six months, 2000 yards of sarees and 300 hundred yards of Punjabi have been produced in our factory. We could not sell these in market. Since the factory was closed for a long time, many people do not know that it has been re-opened. We have sold some amount of clothes in the local market but no market at the national level is yet elusive. Therefore, our factory has been temporarily closed. But we will be back to factory production very soon. Already our DGM Mehdi Hasan has sent some samples outside. We are trying to sell this silk fabric in different markets of the country.

Md. Bablu, owner of Supriya Group, said, "We started our silk factory six months ago. We have been producing silk for these months but due to poor marketing demand we have been forced to close this factory temporarily. We will return to production soon after we capture the market.

When asked whether the bank has any kind of loan, Bablu said, when I inaugurated the factory, I said that we will not take any kind of loan from here. So we don't have any bank loan on our factory.

Local people of Thakurgaon said that the silk factory was re-opened after 21 years. It got closed again after six months, which is very disappointing news. We want this industry to function well and create a market for it outside. So that employment will be created among the people of Thakurgaon. If the leaders who are at the district level take steps and make efforts, then maybe the silk factory will be able to run well.

Acting Assistant Director of Thakurgaon Zonal Silk Extension Office, Mahbub-ul-Haq said, the owner of 'Supriya Group' violated the terms and suddenly stopped the production of the factory. This matter has been informed to the higher authorities.
