To make the capital's transportation system smoother Tejgaon Traffic Division Police take numerous initiatives. Among them, the eradication of rickshaw lanes from roads is one of their notable initiatives.
As the green road connects Panthpath and Farmgate which carries lots of importance for the people who reside surrounding it or use this road. Along with the movement of thousands of people, Pani Bhavan, IBA Hostel, the University of Asia Pacific and several university coaching centres have been located here.
Until now, there were hundreds of rickshaws parked along this busy road along with several rickshaw repair shops. Besides, several floating hotels on the sidewalk surrounding this rickshaw lane existed which did not allow people to walk on the sidewalk. Recently, a different picture has been observed on the ground inspection of the area, there are no old rickshaw lanes or occupied footpaths.
Sudip Saurabh Guha, an IBA student of Dhaka University, told the reporter, "Earlier, our bus could not turn properly while leaving or entering the hostel due to rickshaws and it even took a long time to come and go. Recently, the situation has improved a lot." Monir Hossain, a resident of East Rajabazar expressed an expectation that the police will carry out their activities regularly to keep this road clean and time will prove how much they can.
On inquiry to the spot and activities, it has been discovered that dumping and other legal measures have been taken drastically against these and about 61 rickshaws have been taken under lawful actions in this operation led by Tejgaon Traffic Zone. These initiatives or activities of Tejgaon Traffic Division are undoubtedly commendable, but everyone hopes that it should not be only for a few days.
In this aspect, Assistant Commissioner of Police Snehashish Das said, "We are committed to keep this road free from rickshaws and illegal parking under the guidance of DC Traffic Tejgaon Mr Mostak Ahmed Sir. To ensure maximum usage of the broads, we are conducting raids on this road every morning and afternoon for two hours and this will continue along with creating awareness among rickshaw pullers."
Roads should be used for vehicles, so is a sidewalk for people to walk. Thus, everyone hopes that this road used by thousands of people and university admissions candidates will be rid of all sorts of illegal parking and traffic jams.
