Rohingya leader gunned down in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya camp

A 43-year-old Rohingya leader was gunned down by miscreants at a camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Monday (13 May).

The deceased was Md Illias, 43, was son of Abul Kashem of Block C/3 in Camp-4 and head majhi (a unit leader) of the camp.

Ukhiya police station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Shamim Hossain said a gang of 10 to 15 miscreants picked Md Illias up from his house after breaking open its door and shot him in front of an office in the camp and fled away in the early morning.

Illias died on the spot, he said, adding that the reason behind the murder couldn’t be known immediately.

The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and security has been beefed up in the camp following the incident.
