Two cousins drowned in a pond at Mominpara area of Gomstapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Friday (17 May) afternoon. The deceased were identified as Farhana, 4, daughter of Mofizul Islam, and Fahim Ali, 3, son of Dawud Ali of the upazila.
Moin Uddin, sub-inspector (SI) of Gomstapur police station said that two children fell into the water body in the absence of family members when they were playing on the bank of the pond near their house at around 12:30pm.
At one stage of a frantic search that followed the discovery that they were missing, the bodies of the children were found floating in the pond.
"As there was no complaint from the families of the victims, the bodies were handed over in the afternoon," said the SI.
