Allegations of repeated attacks and gunfire have arisen at the residence of Japan-Bangladesh Group's chairman Selim Pradhan in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila, in support of defeated candidates in the Rupganj upazila parishad elections. At least six security personnel were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred from morning till evening on Thursday (23 May) at Selim Pradhan's residence in the Saughat area of Rupganj upazila.

The injured were identified as security personnel Aktar Hossain, Forhad Hossain, Shafiqul Islam, Shipon Haoladar, Rana Sheikh, and Faruk Hossain.

Regarding the attack, Selim Pradhan said that in the morning, over a hundred people, armed with local weapons, launched an attack following the instructions of recently elected upazila chairman Habibur Rahman Habib.

“They have attacked me to kill me, announcing their intentions,” he said.

This attack was allegedly carried out in support of Ranu, the opposing candidate of recently held upazila chairman elections against Habibur Rahman Habib, Selim Pradhan claimed.

Concerning safety, Selim Pradhan's Russian wife, Anna Pradhan, stated, "My children and I are suffering from insecurity. If the police administration does not take action, I will complain to the Russian Embassy."

Efforts to contact Rupganj upazila chairman Habibur Rahman Habib for comments were unsuccessful.

Dipak Chandra Saha, Deputy Commissioner of Rupganj Police, stated, "An attack occurred in the morning centered around a business dispute. Subsequently, an adequate number of police forces have been deployed. They will take necessary actions."

Regarding the matter, Golam Mostafa Rasel, Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj, stated, "We are unaware of the gunfire incident. However, police have been sent there."

Selim Pradhan campaigned openly in favor of Abu Hossain Bhuiyan Ranu, the defeated chairman candidate during the Rupganj upazila parishad elections held on May 21. Habibur Rahman Habib emerged as the victor in the elections.
