Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has introduced a groundbreaking variety of rice, BRRI Dhan-105, colloquially termed as 'diabetic rice'. This innovative strain boasts low carbohydrate content, making it an ideal dietary choice for diabetic patients. Developed with meticulous research and precision, BRRI Dhan-105 promises not only improved health outcomes but also a boon for the agricultural economy of the nation.

Situated in Gazipur, BRRI has long been at the forefront of agricultural research in Bangladesh. Their latest creation, BRRI Dhan-105, marks a paradigm shift in rice cultivation, particularly in addressing the pressing health concerns associated with diabetes. Farmers in Gazipur have heralded its arrival, citing promising yields and a potential increase in market value.

The cultivation of BRRI Dhan-105 made its debut in the verdant fields of Mushuddi village, Dhanbari upazila, Tangail. Two pioneering farmers took up the mantle, sowing the seeds of progress. The recent field day celebration on May 16 witnessed the culmination of their efforts, with BRRI officials gracing the occasion, underscoring the significance of this milestone.

Distinguished by its distinct characteristics, BRRI Dhan-105 exhibits lush green, upright leaves and slender, medium-long grains. However, its true prowess lies in its nutritional profile, boasting significantly lower carbohydrate levels compared to conventional rice varieties. This attribute not only caters to the dietary requirements of diabetic individuals but also holds promise in meeting the broader nutritional needs of the populace.

Farmers like Mizanur Rahman and Gholam Mostafa Bhuttu attest to the remarkable performance of BRRI Dhan-105. With bountiful yields surpassing expectations, coupled with disease resistance, this new strain emerges as a game-changer in agricultural circles. Moreover, the proactive engagement of BRRI in procuring the harvested paddy underscores their commitment to supporting farmers through every stage of cultivation.

Agricultural officials echo a sentiment of optimism, emphasizing the suitability of BRRI Dhan-105 for widespread dissemination among farmers. Masudur Rahman, the agricultural officer of Dhanbari upazila, underscores the importance of adequate seed availability to facilitate broader adoption of this transformative variety.

Dr. Amena Khatun, the chief scientific officer of BRRI, sheds light on the rationale behind developing BRRI Dhan-105. With the prevalence of diabetes reaching alarming levels, the imperative to innovate rice varieties tailored to mitigate health risks becomes paramount. BRRI Dhan-105 stands as a testament to their commitment to public health, boasting not only low glycemic index but also resilience to pests and diseases.

Dr. Shahjahan Kabir, the Director General of BRRI, emphasizes the institute's overarching mission of ensuring food security for the nation. Through relentless research and development endeavors, BRRI continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and nutritional value. BRRI Dhan-105 exemplifies this ethos, heralding a future where sustainable agriculture intersects with public health imperatives.

BRRI Dhan-105 represents a monumental achievement in Bangladesh's agricultural landscape. As the nation grapples with the dual challenges of food security and rising health concerns, this 'diabetic rice' emerges as a beacon of hope, promising not only sustenance but also improved well-being for millions. With continued support and collaboration, BRRI's pioneering efforts are poised to usher in a new era of agricultural excellence and human prosperity.
