Two of a family electrocuted in Sherpur

Two members died family died and one other was injured in an electrocution incident at Majidbari Purbapara area of Talki union in Nokla upazila of Sherpur on Wednesday (29 May).

The incident happened around 5:30 pm. 

The deceased were identified as Firoz Mia (40) and his niece Parvin Akter (35). The injured, Rokon Mia (13), has been admitted to Nokla Upazila Health Complex.

Nokla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Kader Mia confirmed the matter. 

Police, hospital and local sources said due to the influence of Cyclone Remal two days ago, the electric wire on the roof of Firoz Mia's house tripped. On Wednesday afternoon, the torn wire fell in the courtyard of the house.

In the afternoon, Parvin got stuck in the torn wire while touching it. At that time, Firoz also got stuck in the wire while trying to save his niece. Rokon, son of Firoz, was also injured while trying to rescue them.

The family members rescued them quickly and took them to Nokla Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared Firoz and Parvin dead. 

An unnatural death case was filed at the police station over the matter. The family members of the deceased have applied for burial of the bodies without autopsy, the OC said.
