A Chattogram court here on Thursday (30 May) awarded life-term imprisonment to a man for murdering his wife over a family feud in 2014.
The court of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge-5 Nargis Akter delivered the judgment today convicting Harunur Rashid, son of Md Abul Kalam, hailed from city's Halishahar Thana.
The court also fined him Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convict Harunur Rashid, 30, strangulated to death his wife Anny Akter, 22, at his residence on December 8 in 2014 for not fulfilling his dowry demand during their conjugal life on 45 days only.
The couple got married on October 24 in 2014.
On December 9 in 2014, police recovered the body from his residence at Halishahar Thana. Victim's father Md Younus filed a murder case with Halishahor thana on the same day against four persons while police submitted charge-sheet before the court against only Harunur Rashid.
The court framed charges on April 29 in 2019.
The court today announced the verdict after examining a total of 13 prosecution witnesses out of 31 in presence of the convicted person.
