Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a fugitive leader of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from the city's Adabor Police Station area on Friday night. The arrested was identified as Nafis Salam Udoy, 47, son of Md Abdus Salam, a resident of Adabor area in the city.
"A special team of the RAB-2 raided the area around 11pm on Friday and arrested him. There are five anti-terrorism and a police assault cases against him," Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-2 M. Shihab Karim said on Saturday (8 June).
"Besides promoting radical militant books declared banned in different parts of the country, he was also encouraging the young generation to militancy. He was in regular contact with the group leaders of Hizb ut-Tahrir and used to distribute anti-state and anti-government leaflets and invite the youth to various mosques to discuss militant propaganda," the RAB official said.
Necessary legal action has been taken against him, he added.
