At least 20 people have been injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League over occupying a CNG stand in Pabna. The incident occurred in Kadua area of Sujanagar upazila on Saturday (8 June) morning.
Fourteen of the injured were admitted to Pabna General Hospital and Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex, said Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station.
The clash between the two sides started around 9am on Saturday.
According to local and police sources, Kadua’s CNG stand is currently occupied by the group of Sujanagar Upazila Awami League general secretary and upazila election defeated candidate Shahinuzzaman Shaheen.
After the Upazila Awami League president Abdul Wahab won the upazila elections recently, there has been tension between the two groups over the CNG stand.
Some of the injured were identified as: Taju Pramanik (45), Alauddin Pramanik (50), Helena Khatun (40), Ashikur Rahman Shuvo (21), Masum Sheikh (34), Shariful Islam (30), Saddam Hossain (30), Delwar Hossain (35), Salim Pramanik (35), Esim Pramanik (40), Suman Pramanik (38), Monir Uddin Pramanik (63) and Ujjal Kazi (40).
OC Jalal Uddin said, they have not received any written complaint yet. Legal action will be taken if there is a complaint, he said.
