A violent clash between two youth groups in the Puranbazar area of Chandpur's Sadar upazila resulted in one death and left at least fifteen others injured. The altercation, fueled by previous enmity and a struggle for dominance, erupted on Tuesday (11 June) night.

The conflict began at the Madhusudan High School field, where youths from Natiganj and Morekatsi Road engaged in a heated argument that quickly escalated into a full-blown clash around 9:30 pm, continuing until almost 10:45 pm. Witnesses reported that the groups resorted to aggressive behavior, including stone-throwing and hurling glass bottles, forcing nearby shops to close out of fear.

Approximately 15 to 16 individuals sustained injuries, with three critically wounded. One of the critically injured, Al Amin, 32, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Sadar Hospital.

Additional Superintendent of District Police Sudipta Roy confirmed the death and detailed the police response. Upon receiving information, a police team led by Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohsin Alam rushed to the scene and dispersed the crowd by firing 20-25 rounds of rubber bullets, he said. He assured that the death was not caused by police action.

The situation has since been brought under control, with additional police forces deployed to maintain peace. An investigation is ongoing to uncover all the facts related to the incident, according to police officials.
