A complaint has been filed against 21 people including a Union Parishad member for brutally beating a man after tying him to a tree in Faridpur's Sadar upazila.
The seriously injured Delwar Khan, 36, son of Anwar Khan, a resident of Bara Madhavpur village of Krishnanagar Union of the Upazila, was rescued by the police and admitted to the trauma centre of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.
On Wednesday (12 June) night, Delwar Khan was called from home by local UP member Moniruzzaman Abed, Shaheen and their associates.
From there, the accused took Delwar to Majed Mallik's house. There, he was tied to a tree and brutally beaten. Later, Delwar's family members called 999 and the police went and rescued him and admitted him to the trauma centre of Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital.
Victim Delwar Khan said, "I protested after knowing an extra-marital affair of a young man named Shaheen with the wife of a Saudi expatriate. Due to this, UP member Moniruzzaman Abed, Shaheen and their associates came to my house at night and forcibly took me to Majed Mallik's house. Then they tied me to a tree in that house and beat me badly.”
“Both my legs and left arm were broken, head and other parts of my body were also injured,” he claimed.
Delwar Khan also said that he lodged a complaint against 21 people, naming nine of them, including UP member Moniruzzaman at Faridpur Kotyali police station on Friday. However, police are yet to arrest anyone involved so far, he alleged.
Delwar Khan's wife Meera Akhter said they came again on Friday night. “The motor of the house was taken off last night as we were in the hospital. We suffer from insecurity.”
Meanwhile, local UP member Moniruzzaman Abed could not be reached for comment as he did not receive the correspondent's phone.
Chairman of Krishnanagar Union Parishad AKM Basharul Alam Badsha said that Delwar is a notorious thief. Even on the night of the incident, he was caught by the locals while stealing and beaten up.
Shailen Chakma, Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops), said they have received a complaint regarding the incident.
Legal action would be taken upon investigation.
