Water level of all 16 rivers including the Dharla and Teesta in Kurigram is increasing surprisingly. Dharla is now flowing 23cm above which is higher than the danger level . Besides Teesta crosses 16 cm danger level in the morning on Thursday (20 June).

River erosion is also going in full swing with the increasing water level.

Sub-divisional Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board (WDB) Rafsanzani informed, water level of the river including the Brahmaputra is increasing but flowing under the danger level. If water increases simultaneously, it might be crossing the danger mark.

According to Public Representatives, most of the low-lying areas have been submerged and more than 15 thousand people in the areas have been marooned. The standing crops including vegetable fields are inundated. The rural roads have gone under flood water and communication and sanitation systems have also collapsed.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Saidul Arif said, 16 Rivers are flowing through the Kurigam district. All of them, besides the water level of the River Dharla and Teesta, are flowing above the danger level. Consequently, low-lying areas of Nageswari, Rajarhat and Kurigram sadar upazilas have been inundated which have created flood situation. More than 3691 persons were affected by the disaster. Nearly 144 Metric Tons (MT) GR Rice, 10 lakh 35 thousand have been distributed between the victims as relief of sub-allocation. Flood shelters numbering 404 have opened where the flood victims are taking shelter. Food and relief were provided to the victims. A total of 04-speed boats and 02 boats are kept for rescue of flood victims. The overall flood situation is now normal in the district.

MP  of  Kurigram constituency-2 Dr. Hamidul Haque Khandoker visited flood-affected areas at Jatrapur and Pachgachi union on Thursday. He said river erosion is going on with the increasing of river water and several thousand people have been marooned. It was ordered by WDB to take essential action to protect the River erosion.
