Two local businessmen were injured in misfires during the annual firearm testing of private AB Bank at Madunaghat Police Investigation Centre in Hathazari of Chattogram on Tuesday (24 June).

The injured were identified as Nurul Absar, 43, son of late Nurul Islam Uttar Burishchar under Fatehpur union of the Hathazari upazila and Yakub Ali, 55, son of late Kabir Ahmed, of the same area.

The injured were shoppers in front of the investigation centre.

Locals and police said, police were testing a shotgun loaded with bullets in an open area behind the bank. Suddenly, stray pellets struck the two businessmen standing in front of their shops.

Later, the injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while Nurul Absar was admitted and Yakub was released after giving first aid.

Md. Mahmud, an officer from AB Bank's Nozumiahat branch, declined to make a comment in this regard and confirm whether the shotgun involved belonged to the bank.

Moin Uddin Sumon, in charge of the investigation centre, confirmed the matter saying that a general diary (GD) was lodged and higher authorities were apprised for further action
