Man sentenced to death killing his wife in Khulna

A tribunal occurred in Khulna on Thursday (27 June) convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife over dowry in 2006.

Abdus Salam Khan, Judge of the Khulna Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 handed down the punishment.

The convict is Md Kayed-e-Azam of Koyra upazila of Khulna district.

According to the prosecution, Azam used to torture his wife Nazma Begum, daughter of Fazal Dhali of Koyra upazila science their marriage in 1999. On September 6, 2006, Azam killed his wife.

Razia Khatun, mother of Nazma filed a case against seven people in this connection. Police submitted chargesheet against seven people.

After examining records and witnesses, the tribunal acquitted six people as allegations brought against them could not be proved.

Those who got acquittal are Abu Taleb, father of Azam, Israfil, brother of Azam, Mafia Khatun, Md Moni, Rajab Ali and Zahurul.
