Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) of Sharsha Upazila in Jashore has triumphantly concluded the excavation of two pivotal canals as part of a canal excavation project. This achievement has brought immense joy to the hearts of countless farmers in the vicinity.

The LGED's funding and completion of this project have visibly transformed the landscape, instilling hope and optimism among the local farming community. The successful excavation of these canals has ignited dreams of abundant harvests, as farmers now envision the prosperity that awaits their lands adjacent to the canal banks.

The project involved the meticulous excavation of two canals: one running from Kanyadah Bridge to Makrabill and another spanning three kilometers through Basatpur Bill. The primary objective of these waterways is to facilitate easy irrigation for the triple-crop lands, ensuring that the farmers have an uninterrupted supply of water for their cultivation needs.

In a thoughtful gesture towards environmental conservation and the welfare of the local populace, the LGED also undertook the planting of 920 saplings along the banks of the two canals. This initiative aims to create a green and shaded environment for future generations.

Farmers in the region have recounted the hardships they faced in the past, particularly the arduous task of transporting harvested rice from their extensive fields near the canals. The reliance on rainfall for irrigating their triple-crop lands often resulted in days of anxious waiting, severely impacting their agricultural activities.

However, with the completion of the canal excavations, these challenges have been significantly mitigated. The farmers now have access to a steady water supply, which has greatly enhanced their ability to cultivate their lands. This newfound convenience has been a source of immense happiness for the farming community.

Sharsha Upazila Engineer (LGED) MM Mamun Hasan highlighted the previous state of the canals, describing them as neglected and incapable of holding water due to a lack of maintenance. This situation had adversely affected the farmers' ability to grow their triple crops effectively. With the revitalization of the canals, Engineer Hasan assured that the farmers would no longer have to endure water shortages, a sentiment echoed by the contented expressions on the farmers' faces.

The excavation of the two canals was accomplished at a cost of approximately Tk 83 lakh million and Tk 30 lakh, respectively. The investment in this project is a testament to the LGED's commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring food security in the region. The successful completion of this initiative marks a significant milestone, not only in terms of infrastructure development but also in fostering a sense of community well-being and prosperity.

Moreover, the LGED has planned regular maintenance for the canals to ensure their continued efficiency. They have also initiated training programs for farmers on optimal water usage and sustainable farming practices. These efforts are expected to yield long-term benefits, enhancing agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability in the area. The project stands as a model for other regions, showcasing the positive impact of well-planned and executed infrastructure projects on local communities.
