Road communication between Sajek and Khagrachhari has been suspended after torrential rainfall overnight submerged the Baily Bridge, stranding approximately 300 tourists in Rangamati.

Shirin Akter, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), reported that heavy rainfall over the past few days caused significant flooding, with both the Dighinala road and Baghaihat Bazar underwater.

Around 300 tourists are stranded in the Sajek area due to the flooding, confirmed Shirin Akter.

Low-lying areas of Baghaichari upazila are heavily flooded. Waist-deep water at Baghaihat Bazar has forced the suspension of vehicle services, said Yeasir Arafat, a lineman of Sajek Jeep Samity.

A total of 55 shelters have been prepared, with locals urged to seek safety there.

Vehicular movement has been halted due to the flood conditions.

Pushpa Chakma, manager of Meghpunji Resort in Sajek, noted a drop in tourist numbers and cancellations for Tuesday and Wednesday bookings due to the inclement weather.

Despite the current disruptions, there is hope for improvement. Shirin Akter expressed optimism that road communication will normalize by the afternoon once the rainwater recedes.
