State minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday (25 July), slammed one of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir following his stand on quota reform movement by the students.

“On the first day, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir supported the quota reform movement by the students and urged the students to continue the movement till the Awami League-led government resigned. One day after the massive violence Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that they were not with the movement. I have not seen such an actor in my life,’ Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said.

He made these remarks while addressing a food distribution programme among the workers of Chittagong Port Authority on Thursday. CPA distributed food assistance to 7000 workers and poor people.

CPA secretary Mohd Omar Faruk conducted the programme while the CPA chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail delivered a welcome speech.

“Fomentation has been given from abroad to occupy the country following the students’ protest,’ the state minister alleged.

Pointing to the BNP Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that “When the way for a peaceful solution with the students was paved, we saw arson and massive violence in Dhaka city as well as the whole country. If the problem was solved through discussion, then their objectives would not be achieved. That’s why they carried out attacks on different government establishments in the capital.”

“Attempts have been made to attack ordinary students in police uniforms and blame it on the law enforcement agencies. Bangladesh was separated from the rest of the world by setting fire to the server station of Digital Bangladesh. Fake news content has already been created and delivered to the media of different countries of the world. They tried to present Bangladesh as an abandoned country,” he alleged.

Mentioning the CPA officials and workers “I would like to thank you all, because you did not let the port be cut off even for a minute.

“As Customs was completely dependent on the digital system, the Chattogram port experienced container congestion. Container congestion will be eased soon. We are working on it,” the minister said.

CPA board member (admin) Habibur Rahman, member (marine) M Fazlar Rahman, member (finance) Md. Shahidul Alam, member Kawser Rashid, berth operator Saif Powertec’s director Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif, port workers union general secretary Md. Nayebul Islam Fatik, among others, were present at the programme.
