Farmers in Jashore are happy over the bumper harvest of early winter vegetables in their fields. Due to the cultivation of different types of vegetables, the landscape of the fields has changed into a green ceremony. Farmers are smiling due to the bumper yield and higher prices. The vegetables here not only meet the local demand but also spread abroad.

Jashore regional agriculture office sources said that a large part of the country's vegetables are produced in Jashore. Vegetables are cultivated for twelve months in three seasons: summer, early winter, and winter. Within the district, most vegetables are cultivated in Churamankati, Haibatpur, and Kashimpru Unions of Jashore Sadar Upazila. Newly added areas include Bagharpara and Monirampur.

This time, 2800 hectares of vegetables have been cultivated in Jashore Sadar Upazila. Out of this, 13028 hectares in Haibatpur Union, 425 hectares in Churamankati Union, and 283 hectares in Kashimpur Union have been cultivated in advance for early winter vegetables. Various fields are filled with early winter vegetables. Apart from the reputation of the vegetables in this area, there is also a huge demand, said the local Deputy Agriculture Officers.

Vegetable farmers Aminur Rahman, Shahidul Islam, Golam Rasul, Rahad Ali, and many others said that this season there has been a bumper crop of all kinds of vegetables. As the current market price is high, they are marketing vegetables daily. The yield is due to timely weather and the quantity of rain. Now that the market price is good, we are hopeful that we will be profitable in early winter vegetable cultivation.

Farmers also said that during the full season, unscrupulous traders reduce the price of vegetables through syndicates. Then they were forced to sell vegetables at low prices. If there was a cold-storage in Barinagar and Churamankati areas, they would have stored the vegetables instead of selling them when the prices were low. After understanding the market, they would get the opportunity to sell at a higher price.

Sushant Kumar Tarafder, Deputy Director of Jashore Agriculture Extension Department, said Jashore is known throughout the country as a vegetable district. The vegetables here are very famous. Satisfying local demand, it is spreading in foreign markets. He said that summer vegetables have been cultivated in 1400 hectares of land in the district. Among the vegetables, cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, potal, shrimp, and barb are notable. Got a bumper yield. The price is getting a lot. Farmers are benefiting financially.
