The Chief Whip of the National Parliament, Noor-Alam Chowdhury, stated that the saboteurs aimed to seize Ganabhaban. Had the country's intelligence not been vigilant, the attackers would have taken over Ganabhaban. Such a takeover would have led to another catastrophic event similar to the assassination of Bangabandhu.
He made these remarks on Monday (29 July) at 11 AM after inspecting various damaged sites in Madaripur, including the Freedom Fighters Auditorium, Sarvik Petrol Pump, police outposts, buses set on fire, and other affected government and private establishments.
Noor-Alam Chowdhury further mentioned that while everyone was focused on the student movement, a group of conspirators took the opportunity to execute their plans. He pointed out that Jamaat-BNP led these acts of sabotage. To instill fear among the people, saboteurs carried out attacks, vandalism, and arson in various parts of the country. They tried to implement their plans by targeting influential leaders and areas. He emphasized the need for a special tribunal to urgently prosecute these criminals to prevent such conspiracies in the future.
The Member of Parliament for Madaripur-1, Noor-Alam Chowdhury, said that the attackers would have carried out another conspiracy against Sheikh Hasina, similar to the one on 21 August, 2004. Due to intelligence surveillance and the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it was possible to protect Ganabhaban, the Parliament Building, and various other government and private institutions.
Noor-Alam Chowdhury stated that BNP-Jamaat do not have the power to defeat the Awami League through elections. After independence, no one had the power to defeat Bangabandhu in an election, which is why his family was assassinated. Several attempts have been made on the life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Since BNP-Jamaat lacks the strength to defeat the Awami League through votes, they have resorted to domestic and international conspiracies. BNP-Jamaat's arson attacks across the country are primarily out of frustration over not participating in the national elections.
The event was graced by the presence of Awami League Presidium Member and Member of Parliament for Madaripur-2, Shajahan Khan, Chairman of Madaripur District Council Munir Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Marufur Rashid Khan, Superintendent of Police Md. Shafiur Rahman, President of Madaripur District Awami League Sahabuddin Ahmed Molla, Municipal Mayor Khalid Hossain Yad, and Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad Asibur Rahman Khan, and others.
