CMP cops revolt with 11 point demands

Chattogram Metropolitan Police has decided to reform police rank and independent police commission on Wednesday (7 August), there placed a 11-point demand to reform the police.

While, the cops under the banner of ‘Subordinate Police Reform Platform’ placed the demand after a demonstration at CMP headquarter at Dampara on Wednesday afternoon.

Moreover, they demanded an independent police commission so that the police force cannot be used by any party government to implement its political agenda.

In the written statement, the platform’s focal person Anwar Hossain said “We were friends of the people. But some of our senior officials flattered the government and made us face the people. We had to fire on their orders. Today they all fled, leaving us in danger. Many of our brothers had to die because of them. Let those flattering officials be brought back and brought to justice.”

Constable Shahidul Islam said “what was wrong with us? We were forced to obey the chain of command. Many of our brothers have been killed and hanged. I still can’t find many brothers. I want their bodies. They should be buried with state honours. Their families should be taken care of.”

Later, they placed a 11-point demand including those:

  1. Responsible for the destruction of all police installations
  2. Killing police in the context of the ongoing student movement, should be identified and brought under justice, compensation to the families of the killed cops.
  3.  life-time pension-ration and ensuring government employment for one family member.
  4. Ensuring treatment of injured cops and compensation to seriously injured cops.
  5. Resolving existing promotion complications.
  6. Reducing working hours to eight hours and providing overtime payment for additional working hours.
  7. An independent police commission must be formed so that the police force cannot be used by any party government to implement its political agenda.
  8. Residential arrangements must be made for subordinate police officers to ensure security.

However, some of senior officials of CMP including additional commissioners, deputy commissioner and additional deputy commissioners expressed their support to these demands raised by the subordinate cops.
