Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized drugs worth nearly Tk 21 crore during operations in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf and Bandarban's Naikhongchhari upazilas.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from BGB-2 conducted a raid on Thursday night around 11:30 PM in an abandoned slum house located in the Naitongpara border area. The raid was part of an effort to intercept drugs being smuggled into the country, according to Shariful Islam, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at BGB headquarters.

As law enforcement approached, two individuals fled the scene. During a search of the premises, the patrol team discovered a plastic bag containing 1.793 kg of crystal meth, hidden inside a hole in a corner of the house.

In a separate operation in Teknaf, BGB-34 received intelligence that a significant consignment of drugs was entering Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Rejupara border of Naikhongchhari Upazila in Bandarban.

A special team from Rejupara Border Outpost (BOP), led by Captain Abdullah Al Mashrooqi, took position between two hills in the Footerjhiri area. Around 1 AM, the BGB team encountered several individuals, who fled the scene, abandoning a bag containing drugs. The team subsequently seized 2 kg of crystal meth and 80,000 Yaba pills.

The raids continued into the night, but no arrests were made. Operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the drug trafficking, PRO Shariful Islam added.
