The term "Central Placenta Previa" often sends chills down the spines of gynecologists. This rare medical condition in pregnant women poses significant challenges, often leading to a reluctance among doctors to perform cesarean surgeries due to the potential need for over 20 bags of blood and the high risk of maternal death.

However, Professor Dr. Nikunja Bihari Goldar, a gynecologist in Jashore, has achieved remarkable success by performing a Central Placenta Previa surgery without any blood loss. This is the first time such a procedure has been successfully completed in the southwestern region of Bangladesh.

On August 15, 25-year-old Neera Begum, from Kaliganj Upazila in Jhenaidah, was admitted to Kings Medical Services Hospital in Jashore. She was diagnosed with Central Placenta Previa. On the same day, Dr. Nikunja performed her first cesarean surgery. Two days later, on August 17, he conducted a second surgery to remove the placenta, using an alternative method that prevented any blood loss. The patient’s family was immensely relieved and overjoyed by the successful outcome.

Dr. Nikunja explained that Placenta Previa is a serious condition where the placenta lies low in the uterus, covering the cervix. This condition poses extreme risks during childbirth, as the cervix opening can cause the placenta to detach prematurely, leading to severe bleeding and endangering both the mother and the baby.

To address this, Dr. Nikunja employed an innovative technique during surgery. In the first operation, he delivered the baby while keeping the placenta intact. After 48 hours, he performed a second surgery to safely remove the placenta. This two-step approach proved successful without causing any bleeding.

Neera Begum's husband, Mahbub Hossain, shared his relief and happiness, stating that despite seeking treatment from multiple gynecologists, no one was willing to take the risk. Dr. Nikunja’s successful, bloodless surgery has left everyone astonished and grateful.
