Border rumours, arrest operation launched: BGB Commander

Brigadier General Khandaker Shafiquzzaman, Rangpur Region Commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), has warned that anyone spreading rumors along the border will be arrested.

Brigadier General Shafiquzzaman made these remarks while speaking to journalists during a visit to the Barkhata Highway Police Station in Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat, on Tuesday (20 August). 

He stated, "After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, rumors were spread, leading to the gathering of members of the Hindu community at the Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon borders. None of these individuals crossed into neighboring India."

He further mentioned that those responsible for tarnishing the country's image by spreading rumors have been identified. "Three individuals have already been arrested, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the others."

He added, "BGB is assisting the police in maintaining law and order across 13 police stations in the Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions under the Rangpur Region. This includes the Hatibandha, Patgram, and Hatibandha Highway Police Stations in Lalmonirhat."
