Heavy rainfall overnight has caused fresh flooding in Noakhali. The areas affected include Chatkhail and Hatiya of Noakhali district. Additionally, the Maijdee-Dhaka highway is waterlogged, leading to a few vehicles taking risks while passing through.

During a visit today at 12 pm, it was observed that the main road near the Noakhali Education Engineering Department was waterlogged. According to sources from the Daily Messenger, heavy rain on Sunday night flooded various villages in Chatkhail and the low-lying areas of Hatiya Upazila.

The flood situation in Noakhali has worsened due to the rising water levels of rivers, leaving over 20 lakh people stranded. People are facing severe shortages of drinking water and food.

When contacted, Rafiqul Islam, an officer at the Noakhali District Weather Office, told the Daily Messenger that 104 millimeters of rainfall were recorded in the region early Monday.

Today, students from NSTU and Noakhali College used loudspeakers to request businesses not to raise prices excessively. Some dishonest shopkeepers are charging high prices for vegetables, even though all kinds of vegetables are supplied from Cumilla district.

The water levels in different link roads and villages have risen over the last 24 hours.

When contacted, Executive Engineer of the Noakhali Water Development Board, Munshi Amir Fasal, told the Daily Messenger that the water levels rose suddenly, although there had been some improvement the previous day. He also mentioned that the Musapur Regulator switch gate collapsed last night, causing tidal water to speedily enter the western region of Noakhali.

The Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali, Dewan Mahbubur Rahman, said that 20 lakh people have been marooned, with 826 shelter centers set up to provide dry food, medical care, and first aid.
