A suspected member of a terrorist group died in a lynch-mob attack on Friday night in Bogura’s Kahalu upazila, police said.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Hossain, 24, son of Samsul Haque of Parishesh Purbapara of Jamgram Union of the upazila. He was an active member of the terrorist group ‘Ata Bahini’ allegedly.

Locals said the leader of terrorist group Ata along with 8-10 members of his group went to the house of Fonindranath around 10 pm on Friday and demanded Tk10 lakh.

“When Fonindranath expressed his inability to pay the money, they started beating him severely. When a man called Sakha came forward to save Fonindranath, they also beat and stabbed him and fired shots causing panic. When villagers resisted, Ata along with other members of his forces escaped except Rakib Hossain. Later, villagers caught him and gave a good thrashing. Rakib died on the spot," saiShahinuzzaman Shahin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kahalu Police Station, adding Rakib was an active terrorist and was accused in several cases.
