A court here on Wednesday afternoon sentenced four persons to life term imprisonment for killing a woman after rape in Shibganj upazila of the district in 2018.
Senior District and Session Judge, also the Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Naresh Chandra Sarker announced the verdict.
The court also fined them Taka one lakh each, in default, to suffer two more years in jail.
The convicted persons are Helal Ali, 40, son of Abdul Mannan, Abdul Jalil, 40, son of Ataur Rahman, Mohammad Ali alias Saddam, 36, son of Md. Montu and Awal Hossain, 50, son of Ayub Ali, residents of Akhira village under Shibganj upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, the victim, 26, went out of her house at noon on August 9, 2018, and did not return. The next day her body was found near a sugarcane field at Akhira village of the upazila.
After the incident, the victim's father Md. Alauddin filed a case with Shibganj Police Station in this connection on August 10.
The investigation officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Md. Saidur Rahman of PBI submitted charge-sheet to the court accusing eight persons on April 15, 2021.
After a long hearing the court handed down the punishment, the court sources said.
The court also acquitted four persons as the charges brought against them were not proved.
