In a raid conducted by the Jhalokathi District Administration, five dredging machines used for illegal sand extraction from the Sugandha and Bishkhali rivers have been seized.
On Thursday afternoon (September 5), three separate operations were carried out to seize these dredgers from the Sugandha River's launch terminal area, the confluence of Sugandha-Bishkhali-Gabkhan, and the Bishkhali River. Senior Assistant Commissioner and NDC Shyamananda Kundu led the operation, along with other officials from the district administration and members of the police force.
NDC Shyamananda Kundu stated that illegal sand extraction has been taking place in various parts of the Sugandha and Bishkhali rivers. Acting on information received, a mobile court conducted the raids, resulting in the seizure of five dredgers. The dredgers were found in an inactive state, and further legal action is in process. He emphasized that the operation will continue in the interest of the country.
