26 get life imprisonment in a Naogaon murder case

A trial court in Naogaon has convicted 26 people and sentenced them life term imprisonment each in its verdict of a case around 26 years. The court also fined each convict Tk 20,000, in default, they will have to suffer more two months of rigorous imprisonment.

They were convicted on charges of killing Azim Uddin, 55, a resident of Bharatta Shibnagar village under Manda Upazila in Naogaon district on December 2, 1998.

Additional District and Session Judge Mukhlesur Rahman found them guilty of the killing charge and pronounced the verdict.  

According to the prosecution story, in brief, the accused people armed with lethal weapons in accomplice with each other killed their neighbor Azim Uddin as sequel to the previous enmity over a disputed land on December 2, 1998.

Son of the deceased Amzad Hossain had lodged a case with Manda Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing 34 people.

After examining the recorded depositions of 26 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the trial court handed down the aforesaid verdict on Monday noon. Advocate Shamsur Rahman conducted the case on behalf of the state, while Rafiqul Islam defended the accused of the case.
