Tushar taken on 7-day remand in Tahir murder case

Former general secretary of Rangpur City Awami League Tushar Kanti Mondal was taken on a seven-day police remand in connection with Tahir murder case today.

Abdullah Al Tahir was shot dead by police in front of City Bazar during the anti-discrimination students’ movement on July 19.

Tahir’s father Abdur Rahman filed a case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court here accusing a number of people including Tushar on September 3 last.    

Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurunnabi of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case today produced Tushar Kanti Mondal before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) of Rangpur Md Asaduzzaman for granting him 10-day police remand.

Advocate Iffat Akhter of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Service Trust prayed for rejecting the remand petition but the court after hearing both the sides granted him seven days police remand.

Taushar Kanti Mondal was arrested from Dhaka’s Savar area on September 17 and later shown arrested in three other murder cases of Rangpur.
