Hotel worker killed in clash between two groups at Mohammadpur

A hotel worker was shot dead during a clash between two groups at Geneva Camp in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur on Wednesday night, witnesses said.

The deceased has been identified as Shanemaj, 38, son of the late Abu Bakr Siddique. He was employed at a restaurant and kebab shop in the area.

According to the deceased's neighbour, Md. Shafik, the incident occurred around 10:45 pm as Shanemaj was returning home after work. A gunfight broke out near Humayun Road in Geneva Camp, and Shanemaj was hit by a bullet while standing nearby. He sustained critical injuries after being shot in the chest.

Later, Shanemaj was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at 11:30 pm.

DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Inspector Md. Faruk confirmed the incident.

The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.
