Two killed in Mollahat road accident

Two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident when a private car hit a roadside tree in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat district in the early hours of today.

The deceased were Tareque, driver of a private car, and its passenger Riyad, hailed from Daudkandi upazila in Cumilla district. The injured are Habibur Rahman, resident of Muradnagar upazila and Russel, of Daudkandi upazila and Sohrab Hossain of Titas upazila in Cumilla district.

Police said the accident occurred when a Khulna-bound private car hit a roadside tree in Mejhera Gaola area under Mollahat upazila around 3.30am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving all its passengers and driver critically injured on the spot.

The wounded were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where duty doctors declared Tareque and Riyad dead, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mollahat Highway Police Station Sheikh Moniruzzaman Chanu told BSS.

"We will hand over the bodies to their families after post mortem," he added.
