World Diabetes Day 2024 was observed in Patiya with a rally and discussion organised by Patiya Diabetic Society on Thursday.
Retired senior secretary and president of the Diabetic Society and hospital management committee Jamal Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme while Patiya upazila nirbahi officer Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan Johnny addressed as chief guest.
Patiya municipality's former mayor Nurul Islam, Dr. AKM Nasir Uddin, Abul Foyez, Nurul Abshar Sohel and Dr. Dibakar Barua, among others, addressed the programme.
The speakers at the discussion highlighted the global efforts to raise awareness about diabetes and the importance of preventive measures. They stressed the need for increased public awareness about this growing health issue.
A rally was organised earlier in the day, which paraded through the main streets of Patiya. The Diabetic Hospital in Patiya offered free diabetes screening and distributed awareness leaflets throughout the day.
