A woman was tragically killed after being hit by a truck owned by Abul Khair Steel Mill at Sonaichhari area in Sitakunda in Chattogram on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:30 PM near Chowdhuryghata area at Sonaichhari area when a truck loaded with steel rods from Abul Khair Steel Mill ran over the woman, said officials.
The deceased was identified as Shanu Begum, a resident of Netrokona district and was living in a rented house in Madambibirhat area, officials said.
Locals said that the speedy truck hit the woman while she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.
Mojibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station, told The Daily Messenger that a case was filed against the unidentified truck and its driver in this connection.
When asked about the truck, the OC claimed that they had yet to identify the truck.
Imrul Karim Bhuiyan, administrative officer at Abul Khair Steel Mill, confirmed the incident to The Daily Messenger. He stated that the woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a truck, resulting in her death on the spot.
OC Mojibur Rahman said that the body was handed over to the family members after the autopsy.
