A 45-year-old man was killed, and his father and brother were injured following an altercation over a trivial dispute involving a chicken in Zajira upazila of Shariatpur on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Nazrul Madbar, said Al-Amin, officer-in-charge of Zajira Police Station

The incident, which also left his father Latif Madbar (75) and younger brother Suman Madbar (35) injured, occurred on Friday afternoon in the West Arachandi village of Jazira.

According to police and local sources, the clash erupted when a chick from Nazrul’s house wandered into the yard of a neighbour, Borhan Madbar. An argument between the two families escalated into a violent confrontation. Borhan, along with Abu Salam Madbar, Jalil Madbar, Rajon Madbar, and Monu Madbar, allegedly attacked Nazrul with sharp weapons. When Latif and Suman tried to intervene, they were also severely injured.

Locals rescued them and rushed them to the Zazira Upazila Health Complex.

As the condition of Nazrul and Suman worsened, they were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while Latif remained under care at the Upazila Health Complex. Nazrul succumbed to his injuries at DMCH on Saturday morning.

Jasim Madbar, the victim’s elder brother, alleged that the attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute. He claimed that the sons of their rival, Haq Madbar, collaborated with Borhan to orchestrate the assault. “I demand strict punishment for my brother’s killers,” Jasim said.

Legal action would be taken following an investigation. Police are working to arrest the suspects, the OC said.
