Grameen Bank officer snatched in Anwara

An senior officer of Grameen Bank was snatched of over two lakh taka at knifepoint at Singhara area in Anwara Upazila in Chattogram on Sunday afternoon. The victim was identified as Faruk Islam, 28, a senior center manager at Grameen Bank's Chatari Union branch.

"I was on my way to the office after collecting installments from customers. A motorcyclist along with two others intercepted me and snatched the money," victim Faruk Islam told The Daily Messenger.

Mithu Baidya, an eyewitness, said that he saw three young men, one armed with a knife, snatched the bag from the bank officer and speeding away on a red motorcycle.

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, the area manager of Grameen Bank in Anwara, confirmed that Faruk was carrying over two lakh taka in installment and savings collections when he was snatched.

Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Anwara Police Station told The Daily Messenger that a case was filed in this regard and they were trying to arrest the accused.
