The lifeless body of a five-year-old boy, missing for four days, was recovered from a pond in Sheikhpura village, Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday morning, marking a grim end to the search.
The deceased, identified as Nepal Toppo, was the son of Dulal Toppo. According to local police, Nepal had left home on November 16 but did not return, prompting his family to file a general diary (GD) with Gomastapur Police Station the following day.
Locals discovered the boy’s body floating in a pond near his house early Wednesday and alerted authorities. Police subsequently retrieved the body and confirmed the tragic incident.
The body has been sent to Chapainawabganj District Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Gomastapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Bashar. An unnatural death case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, he added.
