A 55-year-old woman’s body was recovered from the Moynar Mor area of Katla union at Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Brishni Pahan, of Murapara in Benupur village under Katla Union and the daughter of the late Sadhan Pahan. Locals found her body in a paddy field, three kilometres from her home and informed police, said Manjurul Islam, assistant superintendent of Police (Birampur Circle),
The victim showed signs of facial injuries and evidence of physical assault was also found, said the police official.
According to locals, Brishni went missing on Friday morning after leaving for a neighbouring village, Damarpara, to harvest paddy. Her body was later found in the field on Saturday morning. They suspect that she was raped before being murdered.
Shariful Islam, sub-inspector of Birampur Police Station, said no motive has been established for the crime. The body has been sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy
