A two-and-a-half-year-old child drowned in a pond at Bonpara in Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district on Saturday morning. The deceased was Abdullah Mia, son of Omar Faruk Mia of Bonpara. According to locals, Abdullah's family members were busy with household chores and the toddler was playing near the pond adjacent to their house.
Around 10:30 am, Abdullah's aunt Rashida Begum saw his body floating in the pond. Family members recovered the child and rushed him to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead,
Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sanowar Hossain they sent a police team after being informed over the death.
