Premier University Chittagong's vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Anupam Sen, pro-vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Kazi Shamim Sultana and treasurer Prof. Dr. Taufique Sayeed resigned amid student protests.

They submitted the resignation letters separately to the President and Chancellor Mohammed Shahabuddin on Friday evening through the education ministry, said the registrar Mohammad Iftekher Monir.

Vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Anupam Sen mentioned old age complications while pro-vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Kazi Shamim Sultana and treasurer Prof. Dr. Taufique Sayeed mentioned personal reasons in the resignation letters, the registrar informed.

The resignation comes after a group of students under the banner of "General Students’ Anti-discrimination Movement, Premier University" launched protests demanding the resignation of vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Anupam Sen, pro-vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Kazi Shamim Sultana and treasurer Prof. Dr. Taufique Sayeed from Wednesday.

The protesters locked the gates of three campuses of university including the main GEC campus. They announced a complete shutdown after locking three campuses.

Eminent figure Prof Dr. Anupam Sen had been serving as the university's vice-chancellor since 2006, following his retirement from Chattogram University.

However, two other officials-- proctor Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury and student welfare and human resource director Khurshidur Rahman-- were also resigned following the protest.
